Just curious how the quarter fits to the painted taillight bezel..I installed the old skins about 8 years ago & the fit sucks so bad I never went any further..I could stick my finger between the painted bezel & quarter panel in the middle..was just a horrible fit..so horrible Im ready to vut them back off that is if the AMD ones fit any better..I know bondo works wonders & no parts are perfect but Im telling ya..need major work with the old panels..I got them from year one about 8 years ago..

Welcome aboard National.....I pretty much just wrapped up welding on a set of AMD full quarters on a 69' Roadrunner. The fit between the tail light extention panels is pretty much perfect from a side profile. The AMD quarters do have plenty of issues in other areas though. Instead of listing them all here, I really recommend checking out my thread "Family Tradition" or Detmatt's thread "Progress Report, Junkyard Dog", under the Member's Restoration threads.

Thanks Prop..I just read some threads on them..def not what I thought or have heard about the AMD quarters..alot of money for something to have to be split or that much work on..I just dont know now..more confused than before..Hate to take my old reproduction panels off to replace with soemthing not as good or better..

Post up some pics of what your up against. I can't say I am totally satisfied with the AMD quarters but they look really nice where it counts. I just had to make a couple of minor adjustments on the "JUNKYARD DOG'S" new quarters so far and I know there will be a couple more, but they go pretty quik and I am pleased with them overall.

Not a problem National...Like Matt said, post up some pic's if you get a chance. I don't know personally, but I heard the new release Goodmark 69' RR skins fit pretty good. Maybe you could avoid the headaches of C-Pillar, Door Jam, Window Corner, Bumper recess and gutter height issues these AMD full quarters are displaying.

All in all you kind of have to take the good with the bad with repro or aftermarket panels. AMD is kind of the lessor of all evils, I guess you could say when it comes to fit up compared with other companies. Whatever MFG of these parts you go with, there is going to be work to get them to fit right. Honestly I think a lot of the sterotype of AMD being plug and play sheetmetal probably is broadcasted by the guys that don't even install the panels themselves but see the finished product when it rolls out of the body shop. Wow! that fit up great! Yeah, not so much.......

Either way there is plenty of folks on here that have dealt with sheetmetal and are glad to answer any questions you have moving forward.

heres a few of both rear taillight fitment..maybe if i had a cut rear piece from top to bottom off a 4door rr that I can fit to taillight panel first then blend to quarter..

From what the owner of Browns told me,the Goodmark stuff comes outta the same building as AMD.

he's yanking your chain Jay...

AMD built and owns their own stamps/toolings. 2 of the guys that started AMD in 2006 left Goodmark to build a better product. Almost all AMD metal is certified Chrysler to be an "Authentic Restoration Product" because it meets chrysler dimensional standards (and they paid the cash cow). About half of Goodmark panels carry that accreditation. They are not the same panels.

It's Goodmark-Dynacorn-Sherman that play the rebox game...They all come from Golden Legion. It's all a matter of creative advertising and making you believe one sells a higher quality product than the other to get your business.

It is true all of them are made in Taiwan........Sad but true!

National,

I take it the end of the quarter where it wraps around the tail light bucket is already welded on? The AMD quarters I put on required some TLC to fit up back there. Nothing major. Couple spots here and there using a body clamp then securing with sheetmetal screws. I must have trial fit the quarter panel extensions 20-30 times before I was happy with the line up.

nah..they are not welded back there yet..i can still push them in or out..just the gap im having the problems with mainly..they actually kinda wobble..just a terrible fit..have had several real good body guys say no problem to fix but they never show up to do it..I know im gonna need bondo but Im not gonna just pack it in there..gotta get a lil closer first..luckily the door to quarter fit is pretty good..I dont know how..guy that put them on for me should have left factory metal on front & back from what all Ive read..too late now unless I get some metal off old junk satellite 4 door or soomething

Well national if your are not too worried by just a bit of filler, below is the route I would try out.

Get your Quarter Panel extensions firmly mounted in place. Make a cut down the cut line with a die grinder/cut wheel. Once cut, manipulate that strip of metal left towards the rear into place with the extension by means of gently pushing prying with nylon trim removal tools-body hammer/dolly-lightly pulling with rag covered pliers/clamp, whatever works for ya. Looks like you'll have a pretty good gap in the cut area when said and done. I would back the left over gap with some 20-22 gauge and weld in place all the way around (weld on from the outside-then seal weld inside the trunk), obviously shaping and fitting the backing to the curve of the quarter first. Outside, grind down the weld cap the best you can and then level off the rest with some filler. It will be a pretty small amount. Most of the backing (in the trunk) would be hidden by the tail light bucket and lamp housing. The rest (if any) could be covered up by a factory looking body schultz or a undercoating/deadener type material. Otherwise, like you said...Graft from another car

Good Luck!

Adding to this post..........That's just my 2 cents on extending your quarter to fit the extension. I can't tell from your pic's if the curvature or side profile of the quarter matches the extension. Thats kind of a different ball game. Mine I had to gently manipulate the curve to match by means of using a body clamp and a hunk of foam (so not to damage quarter). Pinch/shape the quarter into place with the clamp (clamp arm on outer edge of quarter-the other arm on inside of tail light bucket), then secure in place by drilling a sheetmetal screw through the lip that wraps around from the quarter over the tail light bucket. Work your way up/down. It will probably take a bunch of trials before you're happy with it. If you need to push the quarter out to match, use a chunk of 3/4" oak dowl and push with one arm while getting a screw through to hold position. Obviously another person to help would be a lot easier. A relief cut in the upper part of the curve for the bumper indent will help give you a little more play in/out at the bottom, but be careful not to pry too far out of whack or you will be backing/doing a bit of work down there as well
