Jeeze.. I've serviced dozens upon dozens of those back in the day.... Most of ya have never heard of them??? They were pretty common...
 
When I was wrenching just after HS, I did an oil change on a '50s something GM that had that kind of canister. My boss told me to go in the bathroom for a roll of TP for the filter. I thought he was joking, but nope, that's what I used.
 
Our 53 Ford Sun liner has that same set up on the flat 8. :D

Canister filters are one thing; they're actual oil filters, after all - but actually using toilet paper??
