Are ‘65 727 transmission yokes same as other years?

Is the yoke on the end of a ‘65 727 the same as any other (‘66 and later) 727 yoke? I need to find one for my ‘65 cable shift but seeing as a lot of these things are “one year only” parts, just want to make sure I get the right one. Also, are the u-joints the same across mopar applications? Thanks.

Spline count is the same, as I recall, but some yokes are vented and require a seal on the output shaft (seals to inside of yoke). The non-vented yokes have a missing spline to provide venting.

Always heard that if you use a later yoke on a 65 trans, it may cause leaks.....I have some documentation here somewhere....but I've never seen it explained like Mike did in the above post....sounds reasonable.

The later yokes work. However they are longer. There is a ridge on the 65 output shaft about 1" in front of the splines. The ridge will limit how far a late yoke can slide into the trans. I cut off about 3/8" from the front of the yoke. A $10 cutoff wheel blade at Lowes mounted in a miter saw works great. Just go very slowly.

Do you happen to know how long the 65 yokes are? Will be going to the Fall Fling next weekend. Maybe I can hunt one down.

Your chance of finding one would be pure luck. Even the long late model may work depending on your drive shaft length. to be honest it doesn't matter how the cut looks. It's just clearance. But like i stated it's not tough to cut. Takes about 5 minutes.

I had thought....Def not sure tho, that they are similar in overall length, but the depth inside with NO spline is the major difference. Hopefully someone who has seen them side by side will chime in. I think maybe the 65 only ones are the ones with a vent hole in the end....needed because it's sliding on the other side of that oring seal.

Since I've never actually used a 65 yoke, I'm not sure. We have raced 65 727's since the 90's. All with late yokes. Non use the seal shown above in our configuration. None of them leak a drop.
