Axle Vent

I am replacing the 8.25 rear axle with a 8.75 unit in my 72 Satellite. The current 8.25 axle does not seem to have any vent. Does the 8.75 axle need a vent? Has anyone had probelems with the axle leaking at the seals without a vent?

Yes, all axles have a vent...look at the block where the flexible brake line attaches. Should be a cap on it that's not tight yet doesn't come off.

I have a 8.75 rear axle that has a solid bold on the brake block that mounts on one axle tube. That is why I was asking if the vent was necessary. I can't be sure but the bolt looks to be original.

Yup, it needs a vent, otherwise you run the risk of leakage out of the axle tube ends.
