Bad Advice

I was working in a gm part dept in 1977. A Customer asked me for an universal joint for a 1964 Valiant. I told him that he should go to the nearest Dodge Dealer. His answer was that it's "universal" meaning ons size fit all. My manager then told him "explain me why i have in stock 10 different size?"

Case closed lol
Was at a Sox-Martin / bill Jenkins match race one time back in the old days, a kid from Claremore ok. said his 340 barracuda runs 9`s just like that Sox car.

Not advice related, but BS I hear often.

From someone at a car show "I had a car just like that, but it was blue and had 4-doors, and was a GM or Ford, and had a _______ engine", Maybe they were refering to an older car, or they both had black tires?
"I have a 440 max wedge hemi at my _______ house". Me, lets go see it. Them "No ones home". This goes on with more and more excuses on why we can't see his car....

I worked at a goodyear back in the 80's and every single car that came in needed an idler arm and a center link.

I can probably see maybe 30-40% actually needing an idler arm, but how many center links has anyone ever seen bad?
I have actually needed to replace a few. After all a few 100 thousand will wear them out.

I've seen exactly one that was wallowed out where the tie rod end goes.

One out of hundreds and hundreds of cars I've worked on or looked at.

I've seen about three that were bent.

= money racket to the uneducated consumer.
