Brake Booster

Can anyone tell me what that round canister is coming off my brake booster. And do I need it? Also where does the vacuum line run to. Mine is going to the back of the carb. I believe it should be from the manifold? Can anyone verify? Many thanks as always.

That little round canister on the vacuum line is a brake booster filter

Looks like the GM guys have been under the hood. It's a filter from the chevys. Not needed. Vacuum comes from the manifold

Do the brakes work fine?

Just needs a manifold vacuum source. It can come from the intake runner or the carb base, won't matter.

Yes a GM type filter. Wont hurt to have it.

brakes work and are solid, but it requires a bit of an effort to stop the car when the brakes get hot. Sometimes I need two feet on the pedal.

When was the last brake job? Did you have the drums turned? Just a thought.

It's been a while since the brakes were changed. This is a winter project to replace the shoes, turn the drums and replace all the hardware.
