Break in oil for new 440

Driven oil recommends replacing the oil and filter after break-in, then change oil with new break-in oil and run for 300 miles Max:
Break-In Engine Oil
Really, after break-in, I just us a good high ZDDP "Hot Rod Oil". You don't want to put alot of miles on with a true extra high ZDDP "Break-in" oil because it can create extra wear.
One of Total Seals videos with extra links about break-in oils:

I was going to disagree but decided to check your link first. Thinking that the link went to an incorrect page, I went to their website. Your link does go to their "NEW" break-in recommendations, but if you go to the "Product Catalog" and at the bottom, "Engine Assembly and Break-In", it still says 400mi as shown below but removed the 30 days and only changing the filter.

"A high Zinc and Phosphorus formula in an SAE 10W-40
viscosity that is well suited for classic muscle cars, European
sports cars and motorcycle engines. Ideal for flat tappet or
roller valve trains, as well as Ethanol-blended, pure Methanol
and oxygenated race fuels. Provides excellent ring sealing
and does not require additional ZDDP additives. Good for
full power pulls on the dyno, one night of racing or up to 400
miles on the street."

Their recommended break-in procedure for years, and what I tell my customers was do a normal break-in, change the filter and top off the oil and then run the break-in oil for UP to 400mi or no longer that 30 days due to the lack of detergents and flash rusting protection. Thei marketing department must have decided on a higher revenue approach by saying to change oil and filter, replacing with NEW break-in oil for 300mi, then change oil and filter again going with HR oil. More products sold, more profits. I still recommend to my customers what I have always said; change filter, top off, and run up to 400 mi or 30 days.

My understanding is if you have roller lifters you don’t need the zinc and the 30 minute breaking period for the cam at 2000 rpm.
You have a flat tappet cam so I would think you did need that rotella and 30 minute cam/lifter period.
My engine builder is using and recommended Rotella for initial breaking.
I don’t see why you have to switch out the oil. Just drive it under cycle loads to break in the rings for 50 miles and change the oil. If you get puffs of smoke you might have to extend that period for the rings.
I know the Penn oil is popular but my builder recommended the rotella for that. If they both work who cares.

It is puzzling however that they tell you to go through these break in procedures yet they crank the engines consistently up to 5800 every time I watch a dyno test on YouTube.

Good luck sifting through the replies. A phone call or two to engine shops would be worth it. Sometimes people on the forum mean well with all the intel but can be misleading. Go to the source.
