Broken motor mount

The biggest problem with welding cast iron are heating and cooling too fast. Like stated above, the area must be heated first, and allowed to cool slowly. If cast gets hot too fast or cold too fast it will crack.
I did some welding for a restaurant supply when I was young and learned how to weld cast iron the hard way. Let's just say, I spent quite a few hours fixing my own damage.

The radio host?

I sure thought so.
BTW, as others have said, the preheat, correct welding tools/rods, and just plain experience are required. I had one guy that was real good with welding cast iron, knew how to do it & what he needed. Not sure how he got the experience, but he told me learning the heating process and the proper rod was the key.
