Has anyone used Imperial Services kit to convert a pre '64 cable operated automatic transmission to the later linkage style?

I have the kit in my '64 Polara 500. I tossed the old slush box 727 for an HP 727 from a GTX. The kit works pretty well, but not perfect of course. I have to drop the shifter down into gear. I can't go straight up. For instance I can go from N to D no problem, but to go back to N I have to pass it a bit, then drop into N. I'm sure it's just an adjustment, but I've messed with it for a long time and still no change.
Just curious what other's experiences are.
