Can’t say I’ve seen this before… fan related.

So I’m doing some engine compartment detailing as outlined here:

Winter off season project engine compartment “clean up” and engine repaint.

Had my clutch fan and pulley assembly resting flat on the engine side of the pulley. After a few days I noticed this viscous fluid that leaked out. Any concern when I replace the assembly? Looks like some may have hit the fan at one time or another? Right now I’ve got it sitting upright as if it were on the engine.

If it's leaking, and you think it may have started before you removed it, probably time to replace it.
Ugh! I was hoping not, but judging by the amount of crap stuck to the front side of my engine, that would figure. I have a feeling this one wont be cheap. Thank for the help Bird.

Nose down or as on the engine. Yes, they’ll leak if left nose up. Time to replace.

Yup, replace it.. Fan clutches should be stored vertically but if it must be horizontal lay it with the radiator side down, never with the hub down....

Thanks guys. This little refresher project keeps getting more and more expensive. Can’t wait to see what I’m going to pay to have my radiator re-cored!

Just checked, the oem reproductions are 230.00 ish. A Hayden thermo clutch is only about 60.00. Of course it wont have the oem markings, but you can’t see that anyway. Even if the fin count is off, I’m ok with it. Thanks guys.
