Can a camshaft be reground to a lesser profile?

Can a camshaft be reground to a lesser profile without changing base circle? Example: I have Isky 270 Mega cam sitting around. Used it for a little while a long time ago. Sounds tuff but is a little too much for what I want to do. Could it be reground to a 262 Super cam?

Isky 270 Mega: single pattern, 270 advertised, 221@.050, .465 valve lift, 108 LSA.

Isky 262 Super: single pattern, 262 advertised, 208@.050, .435 valve lift, 108 LSA.

I know I could just get another one, but I look at that pretty cam sitting there and wonder if it could be made into something I would like to try. Thanks.

Just guessing that the cost of a new one would be cheaper then modifying that one. I could be wrong. Sell the one you have and put the money towards the cost of the new one.

I know you used to be abell to do that.and it was more than half the price of new.call the cam co. and ask if nothing els it will save you a core charge.........Artie

it can be done and i've done it. if i remember correctly its juggling LSA around that can be a little tricky.
