Can you think of a car that's based strictly on function?

No style points, just made to follow the function it was designed for. I'm thinking the WWII Jeep. Maybe a specific land-speed racer, and probably F1 cars but I mean street vehicles sold to the public. The original Power Wagon? I would think the original Beetle is pretty close. Ease of manufacture should count too since that lowers the price.

When I was young I wondered why tractors looked the way they did. Two straight frame rails with engines and axles attached.

VW Beetle for basic, affordable transportation for traveling from point A to point B.

Otherwise, the purpose-built 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona. Need I say more?

1968 Hemi Dart
1968 Hemi Cuda
How do they fit the bill? They are based on normal production models and are therefore compromised in some ways.
I know it's a Mopar forum but there are other brands out there.
Needs to be something like a Lotus 7.

Original 289 Cobra. No power assist, no windows, barely any bumpers, no radio, compact, lightweight, V8 power, all independent suspension, disc brakes, a piece of vinyl and some bows for an erector set top.

They both had the same, and only one, purpose.

Henry Ford supposedly said "If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.”

He was certainly correct!

I suppose this is related to your geographic location in the World.

In the US the model T sold 15,000,000 units, and the VW Beetle sold a little over 5 million units in the US out of 21.5 million produced worldwide.

WWII Jeeps only 639,000 units

The ultimate winner is the 40 million Ford F series pickup trucks sold worldwide.

I would think no stereo is a good prerequesite. My latest purchase the '66 Covette coupe has no radio. I'm trying to think of something non functional on it. I guess the hubcaps.
