I had the carb rebuilt a while back. 361, Carter 2 barrel.

Runs great except one problem. The fuel drains back after it sits for a couple of days. It then takes a lot of cranking to get it started.

There is no oder or gas spilled around the carb.

Has anyone had a similar problem and found the problem??

I think it's the crappy gas we get nowadays - evaporates a lot quicker than the old stuff used to.

True, this ethanol gas sucks big time, but I think there may be more to this problem.

Any other ideas?

Thanx,

its not drain back its evaporation. i think todays gas vaporizes at around 130f and the engine runs 180f. doesn't take much to put 2+2 together here and get 4. both my cars do it too. an insulator gasket under the carb will help a little but no real cure.

What everybody has said. It happens in all three of my cars all the time.

yep. even If I am not driving the car I will turn it over once a week otherwise you will be sitting there awhile trying to get the gas flowing again.

Yeah - and it's not just the ethanol. I run premium no ethanol and still have the same problem.

I've had the same problem. My solution is, I have a vacuum gauge on the dash, in the morning I disconnect the gauge from the line and shoot some ether in the line while I'm cranking, it fires right up. Kind of a red neck way of doing things, but it works and I don't have to worry about running the battery down or popping the hood.
