Thanks again to all the members who contributed ideas to my conundrum.
With your help I just finished ID'ing the 727 transmission in my 1968 440 R/T Charger. I'll attached images for the Part No. and partial VIN from this transmission. After de-coding, looks like I have a newer model 1972 727 transmission from a 383 2 BBL car ( a car built at the Jefferson Plant according to the "C" in the VIN). Also --- it appears Dodge stopped stamping the 727 transmission on the bell (adjacent to the engine's sequence no.) sometime before 1972. Maybe I'll offer this trans up for sale and start looking for a correct 727 Part No. PK2801541 (like stushug's). JW..
