I pulled a mini starter off my coworkers van. Its a mini like all the others you see. But this wa the factory one for the van. 5.2 just looking for info on rebuilding it. I need a kit for it if thats available.

the starter kicks out but only spins on the 5th or 6th hit with power. I assume it needs brushes.

Brushes are for the motor and not the solenoid or drive that engages with the flywheel. Rebuilds are $50-$75 at any parts store. I wouldn't mess with it if it were me.

For the price to have it rebuilt, you could go to the yard and snag 3 of them for the same price!

Take it to a good automotive electrical shop and have it fixed. The guy I take my stuff to charges less than a rebuild and often less than what I can buy the parts for.

I also worry about buying cheap crap. I see that one being shipped from Ontario, California ....and it may be just off the boat..... (from China). Just go to NAPA and get a good one , with a warranty.

I found a kit from Rockauto 14.00 for everthing to rebuild it.
I know I also found one new for 32.00 just figured why not rebuild it.. If its cheap.

Years ago people used to get them rebuilt. Starters and alternators that is. I just figured why not try it its cheap enough.

If I have to stand on my head and be a contortionist it dam well better work and for a long time. You can keep the off the boat China cheap.

Well the kit fixed it. 14 bucks and its good to go. If anyone needs the part number its Dorman 02349 took literally 10 minutes to repair it.

The kit came with 2 different styles I just matched what was there. Also had to reuse the longer post.
