Congratulations!

Congratulations John!! What is the article on?
So……..

It’s A Bit of MOPAR History!

Ever wonder where ALL The Dual Quad

Goodness Came From ???

Most folk take it for granted . And Yes

Chrysler Wasn’t the Only One in the Hunt .

But Here’s An Important Part Of Our

History! ….

Post WWII , Early 1950’s . Our ( USA ) was

Still Recovering From The War Effort & Car

Companies Were All Looking For An Edge To

Market For More Sales …..It’s Business You Knoe ( let’s see IF KD comments on the grammar ) haha…..

Here Comes “ La Carerra PanAmericana “…..

An international road race in Mexico ….
A predecessor to the well known “ BAJA”
Series …..

it was well attented too . Mercedes , Ferrari,
Ford , Oldsmobile , Mercury …..AND
Chrysler!

Momma Mopar Decides To Go Racing !!

We’ve all heard Race On Sunday Sell On Monday …..Well This Is 1951-1953 …..

Momma Mopar Had Just Birthed The HEMI!
Specifically The 331 Chrysler!

Born only with two barrels of intake it
Was a reliable & spunky streeter but not a hot rod just yet ….

PS : Did you know Chrysler Stuck one in an
INDY 500 Car & Smoked the Offenhausers!
Back to LaCarerra….

So Momma Mopar is Cost Conscious, like any
Corp . So in Detroit - Motor City There Was A
Prototype Shop called “ Bohnalite “….They Did
Work For Several OEM’s …

I luv the ingenuity of those Chrysler Engineers back in the day , Hey They Made & Supplied
Tank Engines For The War Effort , My Dad Was
Army Engineer D Day & Beyond .. I Salute The
Greatest Generation!

So the “ skunkworks” at Bohnalite crafted up a Dual Quad for The 331. Chrysler also came up with a HOT Solid Lifter Cam & This Thing
Came Alive ! So the 2bbl sedan Sam motors
Didn’t do well in the race as you may imagine.

Now the Dual Quad Hot Cammed HEMIS
Would Outperform The Pack On the Straightaway, but lose the lead in the corners.

This is the 1950’s & The Suspension’s Weren’t
Up to snuff then . Chrysler Built 15 Cars For
The LaCarerra, And We’re So Equipped with
The Bohnalite Dual Quad .

Most Cars Didn’t Survive The Event & Were
Lost To History….

Well here Is An Ultimate Survivor!

It’s Been My Avatar for Years !

Importantly & Historically I Brought This
Out to the 50 th Anniversary Of The HEMI
In Vegas When “ Tom Hoover & Team Ramchargers “ were here & had fascinating
Conversation’s With Them about HEMI
Development as they Autographed This
Important Piece Of High Performance History!

Great Grandpa Bohnalite !

The OG Of Dual Quad Heaven We Enjoy Today! & Needs To Be In A Mopar Museum.
How Many LaCarerraPanamerica Cars Have
Been At Mecum Auctions???

PS
The book that’s pictured is available online for those interested in a more in depth look into our history…

Please Feel Free To Chime In With Any Additional information or contact me PM if I can be of help !

Saw that article and went, "Hey, I know that dude". Beyond cool.
At one of the MATS shows, I tried to show Rob some old dealer training items I have. Covers 49 to 51/2 Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge, Desoto. Film strips and records from the OLD days. Has its own record player and projector. Wasn't interested in them.

Those too should be in a Mopar Museum!

Maybe some people at Chrysler or Kramers

McCandless, etc. may be interested…

That stuff needs to be preserved for

Posterity !

Mopar2ya!!

Happy Thanksgiving to you & the family!!
