Heard a couple of complaints out there about Cragar SS wheels with peeling chrome and rust within a couple of years. Is that just isolated or a disturbing trend?
No idea about the peeling chrome or rust issue....
But I do recall several complaints about hairline
cracks in their castings. Note that this was in
regards to the off-shore Chinese products...
Mine are from 85 and 88 on the date codes on the wheels. I bought them used in the 80's or early 90's and they still look great, but yes. They will start to surface rust even if you sneeze near them. For many years I put a coat of wax on them for the winter and leave it on until spring. I haven't done that in the last 20 years though now that my garage is heated.
The Direct Drill (not the Uni-Lug) Cragars I bought a couple years ago were Made in USA.
Aluminum center, steel rim. I also waxed them. So far so good.
