Dana 60 Axle to Fuel Tank Clearance

It doesn't move the gas tank Ian... it moves the axle an inch more forward of the tank on a Plymouth. As I noted my two fingers are 1.75" less that inch further back axle in your Dodge = 3/4" !

Do you have the correct Dana 60 driveshaft? If you are using the 8 3/4 driveshaft, it is a little bit longer and will push the Dana rearward and touch or scrape on the gas tank.

How on earth can a driveshaft floating on a trans output shaft push the rear axle back? An axle housing that is bolted to springs, firmly attached at the front brackets. You're not forcing that assembly back with a drive shaft...

The 60 is physically fatter too. It's a truck rear-end in a car lol

The front slip yoke was up tight against the trans tailhousing. Then, I had a driveshaft made the correct length, doesn't rub now!

I can see the rear end moving back a little bit especially if still running the stock rubber spring eye bushings.....lots of force going on with the drive shaft jammed up in the transmission when you get on the gas with the 8 and 3/4 drive shaft in there.

A buddy of mine tore up his transmission because of that. Tried to warn him but he thought there was enough yoke showing and it would be fine. It wasn't.

Custom made driveshaft for this application so that's not a factor.
Good logic on the 3/4" but I only have about 3/32", the good news is the front spring segment is almost flat so its as close as it gets as the diff travels up and down through its arc. I appreciate all the feedback

Yes and that's the best way to make sure it'll be right. I've found out over the years that cars can vary and are not always by the book.

I installed a narrowed Dana in my 66 Coronet and at the same time relocated the springs inward along with moving the rear end housing back 3/4 of a inch for more tire clearance, Has anyone just reshaped the front bottom part of the factory gas tank for clearance? I literally have zero clearance, I have a trunk mounted fuel cell so if necessary I can remove the factory tank but don't want to.

Look in section 16 of SM says Dana driveshaft is 50.02".
Looks like the gas tank could be shifted to the rear some. Is there any chance you have Dodge front spring perches on your car. They would move rear diff 1"to back of car.
66 SM doesn't (edit) show Dana driveshaft length need to look in a 67 Plymouth SM.
