DANA 60 WITH EATON POSI UNIT

The "quick service" guys at the dealer I worked at would foul up the preload when replacing pinion seals all the time. They would sing on decel at first, then self destruct.
In Dec of 2012 I set up about 50 rear diffs (mostly10.5s) due to a recall and quick service **** ups. Best month ever, warranty paid over 5.0 hours.
Done a few seal jobs and mark the nut and put it back where it was as close as possible and used a dab of red loc-tite on the threads. Never had an issue doing it that way. The QS guys must have been hitting it with a lot of torque going back together.....?

I had a good friend who ran his own one-man rear end shop. He told me that once a set of r&p gears are noisy, whether thru wear, or improper initial setup, they will be noisy forever, no matter how good the next attempt at setup.
I'm not so sure the noise described by the op is r&p tho. I would start looking other places. U-joints, axle bearings, limited slip additive, trans mount, bent snubber hitting the driveshaft?
Yep, used to warranty them all the time. if a diff came in singing it would get a new gear set every time.
Some aftermarket gear sets are also inherently noisy.
Agree, I don't think he is describing a gear noise. maybe something wrong in the housing install.

Agree, I never had an issue doing it that way either.
They would leave them loose, afraid to give it that last turn I guess.

Well, there's less stuff to mess up in one than there is in an engine lol
