Done a few seal jobs and mark the nut and put it back where it was as close as possible and used a dab of red loc-tite on the threads. Never had an issue doing it that way. The QS guys must have been hitting it with a lot of torque going back together.....?The "quick service" guys at the dealer I worked at would foul up the preload when replacing pinion seals all the time. They would sing on decel at first, then self destruct.
In Dec of 2012 I set up about 50 rear diffs (mostly10.5s) due to a recall and quick service **** ups. Best month ever, warranty paid over 5.0 hours.
