Thanks guys! It has always been a street/strip/show car, but in the past few years I have definitely turned it more towards the strip, with my ultimate goal to get this land yacht into the tens. I added the Dana and cage last year because it was already running mid 11's with iron heads, small headers, and a 3.21 geared Sure-grip. I'm still not sure how that rear survived those launches with ET Streets in this porker, but it did! :icon_eek: Still, since then I had added alum. heads (ported Stage 6), proper headers (TTI 2"/3-1/2"), Crane 1.6 roller rockers, and meth injection, so the poor thing was definitely on borrowed time!
About the time I got it all back together last year, the engine started having oil pressure issues (see the "Dodged a huge bullet" thread for all that) so out it came for freshening. It's basically a 469" low deck stoker with Eagle rods and Ross pistons, using an old Comp custom ground 280/288 hyd. cam. While it was out I had the pistons coated, and replaced the old welded factory stroker crank with a proper 4340 piece. I also added a main cap girdle setup, and converted it over to an external oiling system with a larger pan and billet pump.
Since adding all that beef without actually throwing more power at this thing would be sacrilege :laughing7:, I also replaced the ancient Procharger D1X blower with a new F1C unit. Which then blows through a custom intercooler and into a modded 800 Race Demon carb, and ported M1 single plane intake. It's all fired by a MSD billet distributor and Digital 7+ box.
All that runs through a beefed 727 with a custom 10" Dynamic converter back to the new rearend setup. And Cranky, I will say that the spool setup back there was definitely the right choice! Although I have limited street time with it, 95% of the time you don't even know it's there. The only time you do is in a very slow speed, parking space type maneuver. And even then it's only a slight shudder, a little tire squeak, and a bit more effort on the steering wheel. Maybe with lesser axles I might be a bit worried about some twisting, but not with these. All in all, I'll take it!
Preliminary driving results are very positive. It is just a MUCH stronger combo! If this darn weather ever breaks, I can get some miles on it and get it to the dyno for some tuning. I am hoping that once that happens, those 10's are finally mine! :icon_super:
