Another update.
1. Drove the car last night. it was mid to low 80*F ambient. Coolant temp reached 180*F with intake temps under 90*F, so I got on it. Not one bit of noise while driving the car. I even re-flashed my old tune back onto the car with the original timing. No noise. So.. It's heat related.
2. I do see the EFI screen occasionally flash yellow for the IATs. I believe that happens when IATs are 140* or some other crazy high number. I know, for sure, that my tuner wouldn't have tuned for that, as we set the car up during the winter. I assume there is an IAT compensation menu in Sniper, so I'll take a look. I also seem to need a way to lower the air temps.
Other than that, I am getting a bit of oil spray past the breather and onto the valve cover. It's vacuum line is hooked up to the air filter as it should be. I don't see oil on the air filter nor in the throttle body, so I don't suspect oil is getting into the intake and causing the knock.
3. I am also going to go back to look at the number 1 plug. A friend of mine changed the plugs for me and said it looked like it may have had a bit of oil on it. I guess one fouled plug could cause a ton of noise and smoke when trying to push it while detonating......?
I have another thread going here about doing a rebuild. I feel like I'm chasing someone else's gremlins, especially after finding a repair receipt for "detonation" dated a few years before I bought the car.
