Different ways to pull the engine

Did a compression check on my 1969 Road Runner engine yesterday. Got 1,3,5,2, 135 psi-4,6, 130 psi, and 7 125 psi, and 8 120 psi.
Readings are in spec and for an engine rebuilt over 40 years ago its held up well. However I wanted to do a few things, Aluminum DB4
intake, TTI headers, newer carb, recam it. So I'm thinking about pulling it and reringing it. Now I have a cherry picker, but I also have a
lift. I was thinking instead of pulling the engine out of the car, pulling the torsion bars, upper control arms, and unbolting the K frame and
lifting the car up. Never done it that way but it seems to be a cleaner way of doing it. I was looking for feedback on folks who have done
the K frame method ?

To me, That is the best and easiest method. I have used that on two 70 Challengers and my 68 Charger. When I did my Charger, I swapped in a 6.1 Hemi and 5 speed auto trans so it was detrimental that I did it from the bottom because of fitment issues. I had to cut and fab the tunnel so it was in and out a number of times. The final install was no more that 20 minutes. 4 k frame bolts and 4 cross member bolts. No scratches and no taping needs. I used my Cherry picker to lift the body but you may choose to use your lift.

Dropping the engine out the bottom is the best way to go IF you have the space and tools to do it that way. If you don't have the space or the tools then it is literally impossible.

Hey... at least none of you guys had to pull & put-back an engine with car parked on the street... time-limited by Alternate-side Parking regulations !! Aaah, the good ol' days !

Maybe its a space thing or working alone, I pull trans off of engine but leave it in the tunnel on jack or dolley, then engine hoist the engine out, then jack car up to pull trans out. Take about an hour after everything is unhooked. Ive done it the other way once but I like to have the car rolling still.

Anyone else ever pull a bigblock without a picker/lift/chain hoist etc?? It can be done , but you need 4 dudes. And not be scared of walking on the fenders LOL

The engine in my 64 has been out 4 times in the last 13 years. Do it by myself alone. Never scratched the outer body. Not really any damage in the engine compartment either. Takes an hour to get the trans and shield out. It's a little slower due to the push button cables. After that, the engine can be out in less than an hour. If the trans stays in the car engine removal takes about 1.5 hrs. Engine removal requires the intake lid and bottom to be removed as the sling touches the intake.

My brother and I pulled the 440 out of his 69 Roadrunner right in my grandmas driveway. The trans blew and blew apart the trans tunnel and he scrapped the car. We pulled the motor by hand, just he and I. We stripped off the intake and brackets and stuff on the front, but it was still heavy. We set it on the drivers fender then lifted it down to the ground and set it on a tire. Then we towed the car to the junkyard with no seats, sitting on a milk crate, and no center section in the rear. Of course he was pulling me way too fast and the milk crate and I tipped over. We were pretty wild when we were young, and that car got us in a lot of trouble, but he did buy a Lakewood bellhousing after that.
