hi guys! I need some of your advice ... recently bought a 1972 dodge charger and I'm trying to rebuild it from 0, the engine has a 360 and I want to put a 440 but I have a little problem when I bought a question I did mechanic who saw the car before I buy it and ask if the front and suspension of that car was the original because I saw torsion bars and I answered No! NOT THE ORIGINAL, has LEBARON system and ask if that system was good for a 440 and he responded if no problem! GUYS BUT I HAVE EVEN DOUBT ... I'm looking for the original system charger 72 and it is very difficult here in my country I'm looking for it for interneten United States and I can not find it .. please help is good lebaron system or should I look for original! thanks

PD: sorry for my bad English, I wrote this to travez google translator to test whether it was good or not! then will try to write on here with what I've learned!

Thanks to all the help we can estimate it all!

Well the 1972 Charger I own has torsion bars that are parallel to each other. I believe Mopar used this same setup until at least 1974.

If believe the Lebaron type you mentioned was used that had the torsion bar as a single bar that is " L. " shaped. I cannot imagine anyone adapting that setup to your Charger. A picture would be very helpful .

If I understand, myaerocars is correct. I believe the early Lebaron and Diplomats were "M" body cars and used the L shape set up.
Pictures would be helpful.

My Charger has torsion bars, I never seen one with a LeBaron Suspension.

Please post pictures.

Out of the US, car names were sometimes marketed on different body platforms than we are famillar with over here.

ok guys thank you all very much for your answers I will appreciate all the help you can give me here I leave some old photos!

PD: I have only two months with the charger and before disassembling and do everything I want I would like to get absolutely everything he needs

That is definitley an F/M/J body transverse torsion bar setup.

How about a pic of the rest of the car?

The fender tops and cowl look like 72 B body.

There has been some welding on that frame....

WTF?

Hey guys here are some pictures of my 1972 charger, if not a charger hahaha please tell me maybe xD buy the wrong car! because they do not understand why is that system .. on one side of 72 is a 73 charger buy for very little money he needs muchooo but gotta give love when I finish the 72

PS: buy the 73 thinking I would serve to fix the problem with the suspension and front end but a mechanic said he would not serve me because they are so different I said not to buy but I said I would buy just because I did not want it destroyed ! I'll give you love that car later..

Wow.

Never seen anything like that before.

Besides the totally wrong front suspension, that car looks to have more than just a few fairly severe issues.

Sorry to be a buzzkill, but I don't think I would touch that car.

That is a first for me. Seems like a lot of work with little benefits.
Yes the mechanic is right, 72 and 73 have totally different front suspensions and K-frame. Would need a 71/2 K to fix the 72. Plus reverse the frame mods.

You might be better off putting all the "good stuff" from the red car onto that blue car, if that is an option.

From a different perspective ,it looks like someone did a decent job of engineering. Have a bodyman measure the wheelbase and check the squareness of everything, reweld and gusset anything that's suspect and then clean and paint. Build the 360 to whatever horsepower level for cheaper than the big block and drive it. It's a hot rod. Not a restoration. I'm sure as rare as these cars are there it will have plenty of wow factor. I redid a 56 Ford F100 that had one of these butt ugly K members and redid it to hold a 351 Windsor and C6 because of cost restraints and it worked out. Restore the other one with the 440.

Locally in Venezuela is very tipical to find front end mods on A bodies and earlier B bodies. Mopars here got an infamous fame of bad front end. Lot of aligment issues. The front end begins to get "opened" like this /------\ probably damages on K members? or frames bent at lower control arm attaching area ?

SO what tipically you can find here is CHEBBY front members attached to Mopars frames. This owner at least used a Mopar piece LOL

MANUEL, ESTAS DESESPERADO, NO? jajajajajaja

Sorry I can't be more help.

I had a 73 Challenger that developed the /...\ problem. I never investigated it, but with what I know know, I think it was probably wallowed out LCA mounts.

If that's what it was, it would have been WAY cheaper/easier to re-weld them. than change the whole front suspension.
