Does anyone here like soccer?

my boy, now 28 went to college on a scholarship to Kansas State University, had my daughter in club soccer from age 6-16 and absolutely loved it !! not big on professional soccer.

So I am definitely an odd man out. I like soccer. I played in high school and was pretty good. Just picked it up, and I could run forever. Not so much any more. Guess that comes with age. I have been to several soccer matches for the international teams. Never live over seas, but watched it in a sports bar in England and Italy over seas and man those fans get rowdy. I would more equate it to baseball here as a slower action sport, but with lots of drinking! Like most sports for me now a days, I'll watch it if it happens to be on in the back ground, but not so much go out of my way. Same with football. Used to be my favorite, but priorities change and my time is becoming more valuable and can't waste a whole day on the couch any more.

I was just in a walmart in az, there were five times more soccer jersies and soccer balls touting mexico than US soccer. Maybe thats cause we couldn't even get a tie with Trinidad and Tobago to qualify for world cup.
Before basketball developed a following in other parts of the world," football "was the only real world-wide sport, and the very best athletes played. In the US, soccer is about seventh most popular choice for a world class american athlete. I doubt we will ever be truly competitive on the world stage.
Doesn't break my heart in the slightest.

Never really cared for it much.....and neither did my kids which I thought was a bit odd but that was fine with me. I know a few kids (older now) that have some scars and permanent knots on their legs. Also, I'd rather watch dodge ball :D

Down to the final 4 teams....at least all the teams with the biggest cheats in the game have exited now.....Hollywooders taking dives all the time just to get a free penalty kick. :jackoff:

I made this for a couple of arrogant Poms that I used to work with....

I attended the last soccer game {of 100's}
I will never see/watch another again {thank god}
after my youngest girl Jessica (of 4 of them) ended her participation
some 7 years ago

I've read, some really bad actors/floppers are being trained thou :poke:

They call it "The Beautiful Game"....I think that acting is part of the training regime...

Check out the asshole at 1:15.....

:jackoff:

Referees should Red Card any player who appears to be injured....that would soon put a halt to all the Hollywooders out there. :thumbsup:

It's up there with grade school "dodge ball" in my book; and that is where it should stay in the U.S.A.

I try to be outdoors as much as possible when I am not at my desk job.

Never, ever. Too boring for me. Hey, if you like or play soccer, that's great, it's a good physical exercise game. But having grown up & involved with ice hockey, to me, soccer is like a game in super slow- motion.

For some reason I got into watching the World Cup this year. I’ve been to exactly one professional soccer game in my life about 45 years ago when they first tried the pro league and Minnesota had a team. Bored me to death. My wife is Asian and gets a thrill out of watching it. I’ve watched a lot of the quarter finals and will watch the semis and the final. I’ll never like it very much no matter how popular it gets in the U.S. but I like seeing how crazy the soccer fans get. All that flopping around faking injuries is quite the joke. You’d think they’d make that a yellow card more frequently - like they did flopping in basketball. These soccer players are really ridiculous when they go down - it’s almost fun watching who’s the best actor. They’d never make it in American football.

In hockey, you can get a penalty for " embellishment", that is acting out to draw a penalty on the opposing player, like diving on a tripping. Is there any such provision in soccer ?

I had a real good laugh this morning....another 52 years of agony & whinging...

It's amazing to me how much national pride is tied to a stupid game. My only interest was gloating over losses by countries I don't like. Man, I loved seeing them cry.
