DOGS

Just got done having a conversation with a sheriff. Someone called them and said our dogs tried to attack them and their dog on the road infront of our house. Our dogs have been inside most of the day, our dogs don't leave the yard and don't attack anyone. I was told I now have to have them leashed permanently in my yard or I will receive citations every time I'm reported. The sheriff was cordial and couldn't provide any information besides my address was reported. This will be interesting when Im training my hunting dog three times a week like I usually do.
Would it be cost prohibitive to fence it? Tried to attack is not attacked, but if they did what dogs do, bark and smells butts, that means they were on the road. That's not good as cars are on the road too and a lot of people speed.

I have a 5 foot fence and never give it a thought when I let my darling out. My gates have locks too so one can't come open with somebody not shutting it well. Security cams are a good idea too. A fence would mean no visits from the sheriff's dept.

Just trying to paint the shed trim and someone has to be involved too.

You have the right to face your accuser. Otherwise, it could be bullshit. I'd sue for the info. Public info act.

We had a 12 year old Husky mix, take out both of her ACL's one night while we out for dinner. She was healthy, otherwise. We ended up taking her to Lansing Mi..... to The Michigan State University animal hospital/school. They did rounded cuts on her leg bones, and she had a 6 week long recovery. She healed 100%, and lived another 6 years. 8K well spent, in our eyes.

You sir are a good man.

I'm not sure how much I've spent trying to prolong the life on different animals, but I never feel like its a poor use of money. I feel like some think I'm crazy for doing it (one neighbor looked like he was about to say it but said something else, more on him in a moment), and a couple of project cars suffered or died, but its only money and cars. Not a creature that's suffering (unless the Herbie movies were telling the truth, in which case Oops!)

So that neighbor, nice old guy that I get along with, but not an animal person at all. There is a dog he tolerates but is annoyed by, they only have it because it belonged to a son that passed and the mother wanted to keep it. I've worried that he would push to get rid of the dog as it ages and becomes more expensive, I've just jokingly floated I would adopt the dog to maybe get him to see there is an option. Rocky is a good boy after all.
This same guy looked at me like I was crazy and almost said something when he saw me taking a cat to the vet for some expensive work and he pointed out it makes sense if its one of mine and not a stray I feed. I told him I would do the same for a stray, if I don't who will?

Also same neighbors had a kitten on their lawn and I pointed it out when we spoke and they said its been there all day meowing, they are ignoring it hoping it will go away. It was at the fence just screaming at us so flabbergasted I reached over our small fence, grabbed it and walked away, it was clearly starving and devoured a can of food on the hood of my corvette. Trouble lives a good life now and lives up to her name.
You are absolutely correct; it's only money and old cars. A life, any life is worth it. Mine were all strays and I took them all to the vet and still do and I leave their food out 24/7. I give them the best life I can.

Baron (my pup) blocking the bedroom door, so I can't shut it
it was Christmas Eve, my sister was here with her dog Koni
(13 y/o Belgin Shepard, military surrender dog, 'washed out' when real young)
it was tough getting him/Baron to sleep that night, he wants to play

Poor old Koni, payback from the days when he was an energetic 'wild *** pup'
he was a wild one, very intense & my (former) Lord Budnicks/Buddy
chocolate lab 'was the old dog'
Koni he'll feel that the next day, he wasn't having much to do with Baron,
he was too sore, from the previous day with a young/healthy vibrant energetic dog...

Koni has had a couple of operations & a plate & screws in one foreleg...

I met a great dane dog at the Folsom Green Acres Nursery Store Sunday morning.
That breed of dog is BIG.
What type of vehicle does one drive to transport one of those dogs from point A to point B?
I only have ever seen two great dane's that i can remember.
And the other one i saw, early last year, at my local Lowes store down the street.
Guess owners think nothing of bringing those big dogs to stores with them.
Think this old man made two new friends.

One of my friends raises and breeds Great Danes. Gentle giants. A foot taller at the shoulder than my gsd's.
Seven different AKC recognized colors, plus others.
My friend has a 3/4 ton Van.

My GF had a Dane that sadly, has now passed. What a load of dog. She was 185# and her head came above my elbow. She was a "leaner". I'd stop by and scratch the dog, who would lean into me pushing me across the room. There was no stopping her till I was backed up against a kitchen counter. Here she is, lounging on her loveseat. RIP, Frida.

My friend rescues Danes.
They usually are really gental giants, lovers, leaners & attention hounds
great personalities

I had a Blue Britney Dane, when one of my sisters was over in Scotland,
she got me a dog... (my lab Flash had died a few months earlier)

'Prince' looked blue-grey with like brindle markings,
I never heard of the bread prior...
I knew about Great Danes, but not any sub breeds...

He was a ball of energy, had a bad habit of chasing logging trucks, down the grade
on our 165 acres roadside pretty steep grade...
1st always inside our fence line, barking & running, dang that dog could run
& he was so tall, even at like 10 months old & 135#s & clearing the fence was no problem...

I usually didn't worry about him, he always came come, drink a gallon of water
& go out or chase a cow, pig or deer's or something...

He was still very young & full of vigor, he was a true ranch dog, full of energy, full of life
chasing everything that ran or road (me on the horses or my motorcycles)...

Man that dog could run...

and;
One of the saddest days in my HS years, was a logging truck coming up our driveway
the driver (local guy) getting out 'with tears in his eyes', weeping like a lil' kid,
kept saying; 'he's sorry', I was asking for what (I think I sort of knew)
to tell us my dog Prince (Albert) was wrapped around his front trailers, rear ps axle
(he knew the dog he saw him run inside the fence a lot, when they'd use the Jake brake)
he said;
'Prince' was running along the road, inside the fence it was a reg deal, normal
then all of a sudden driver noticed him alongside the truck, trying to bite at the tires,
& all of a sudden he heard a yipe & a thump, going like 40+ down the grade
& unfortunately, the dog got wrapped up, it was one if not the grossest things I ever saw...

still make me sad
