Hi

For 1969 charger. Need to adjust the door strike a little. The door needs to be pulled up a hair to make it close perfectly. Do you adjust the strike/latch? if so how is it done

Thanks

First I would check the hinges for wear. If the hinges are worn you will always have some degree of issues with it. Just open the door about a foot and lift up on rear edge and if it has any movement in the door alone, then the hinges need to be rebuilt.

The strike plate on the rear quarter with 3 large Phillip head screws is the adjustable part. I would start by outlining its present position with tape. First make sure the door is adjusted at the hinges so all the lines are consistent with the front and rear fenders. If the door needs to be raised, lowered or rotated in the opening this is the first step.

Once the door is aligned well in the opening, push in the latch button on the handel and hold it and gently push the door closed (it won’t latch with you holding the button). If you feel it dragging or bumping, try lifting slightly on the end of the door and repeat the trial closing. If it goes into position smoothly now then the receiver needs to be raised slightly. If it makes it worse, push down on the end of the door and repeat to see if the latch needs to be slightly lowered. You can loosen the screws enough to slide the receiver up or down. The tape gives you a reference point. The door should go fully into position without bumping or heavy dragging. A very slight drag to lift the rear of the door slightly should be OK. The rotation of the latch piece can interfere with the closing. It needs to be positioned so the door part of the latch glides into it smoothly without interference.

Once it shuts smoothly with the button held in, try closing and latching it normally. If the rear of the door sits a little proud of the rear quarter, loosen the receiver and slide it in slightly and retest. If the doesn't fully latch, or takes a lot of force to close, loosen the receiver slightly and pull it out slightly and retest. At this point you just have to keep experimenting until it latches smoothly. It may take some time. Good luck.

No, don't use the striker to set door height.
The door should be aligned without the striker in place.
Hinge to pillar sets door height.
Like posted above, check the condition of your hinges.
