Total Mopar newb here, so i don't have much experience on how the exterior door handles should behave. Car in my signature.

How far should you have to lift the handle before the door pops the latch ? I have to lift both handles about 95% of their travel before the door latch operates. I would think it should be sooner than that.

Thanks in advance.

When your door is open rock it up and down. How much play in those hinges? Might be time to rebuild them.

Thanks PP, No play in the hinges, i've already gone thru them. Doors open and close perfectly, i'm just thinking the actuation of the latch should happen sooner in the lifting process.

Need to pop your door panels off and take a peek at your linkage for wear.

Do you know if the mechanisms were previously removed?

I've personally replaced the drivers latch.

Can't anyone tell me how far their handles lift before the latch operates ?

95% up just sounds too high....I agree with PP sounds like worn components or incorrect parts...

LOL you guys are killing me. I think it sounds too high too. Thats why i'm here.

Sorry, the majority of cars here are pre 70....

We are just trying to help.....I dont recall my old 71 charger being like yours....

Hang tight. Going to check for you soon. Patience....

One car does and the other car doesn't. Both 73s. I am guessing i have worn components. Both cars have a little "wiggle" in the hinges.

Do you know if the other door has had work done to it? If not, there's your barometer for how far they should go before opening. It's not hard unless you make it. Good Luck

Both door handles function the same. Each one has to be lifted almost fully before the latch is actuated.
Each door opens and closes beautifully. They don't stick, they don't droop when opened, and you don't have to slam them.

I guess my question was just too difficult.
Cheers !

Does it feel like there's slack in the linkage before there is resistance and the latch moves? If so, remove the door panel and put a bend in the long linkage arm to shorten it and remove "almost" all the slack.

Could be simple as one of the rods has a bend in it from decades of use. Same on both sides. Pop them panels and see what you got.

Seems like they answered as good as anyone could have. Were you wanting an exact measurement or something?

I sense cabin fever and its only January...
