I'm helping a friend rebuild a charger that was jumped and left for dead long ago. He has a rebuilt 727 with a short tail shaft and a u joint connection on it. I'm just wanting to know if it's possible to run a driveshaft with a slip joint in it so nothing breaks when the suspension travels up and down. I know they are used in 2 pice driveshafts and 4x4s fairly often, but have no personal experience with them. Any opinions are appreciated.

Is there a way to limit suspension travel at full compression? This way it won't compress the slip yoke into the transmission. I'd probably look into huge bump stops to limit the compressed travel. Might be easier.

There isn't a slip yoke in the transmission. The u joint is bolted to the output shaft on the short ones.

Is there even a compatible mount cast on that short extension housing?
Mike
We are fabricating a mount. There's only a 1.5" difference between mounting locations.

A driveline shop can make one. That’s what is done on the front shaft on 1970’s 4x4 trucks. And it’s getting common to replace the ball & trunion on older mopars,
