Looking to buy a new driveshaft for 1968 Charger with 500hp 440 and 727 trans. Mostly street cruiser, tire burner. Any recommendations?

You can get a decent machine shop to build on. It is a tube with the universal joints at each end. I did that a long time ago. The match two shafts in the middle and weld plan did not work. I got a vibration. Had to get any info from Hot Rod magazine back then

Check with local truck supply companies. They usually offer drive shaft rebuilding/repairs/replacement.

I have a local friend who can make you any custom shaft you like and balance it as well.

I've had three driveshafts made by three different local companies. Only one turned out to be acceptable, probably because it's only a foot long. One was so bad the car was undriveable over 50 mph.

I had Strange build the two driveshafts for me. Even with shipping halfway across the country, they were only slightly more expensive that the incompetent local shops. Strange uses seamless chrome moly tubing not the cheapest Chinese steel these local bums use.

I used a company called Associated Truck Parts. They have locations around the US. Never had an issue with them.

This was almost 10 years ago, but ordering was easy. I believe I ordered the 3" aluminum driveshaft. Shipped pretty quick, too.

Upgrade both yokes to the larger U-Joints too
It was priced reasonable and arrived pretty fast

I won't trust a 50 some year old shaft again
