Edelbrock 1906 Carburetor Spacer

I am in the process of upgrading my 383 two barrel to a four barrel. I've replaced the intake with the correct factory intake and am putting the carburetor on this weekend. I went with the Edelbrock 1906 as recommended by a number of people on here. My question is on the spacer. I am going to need a spacer as I have a little clearance issue (need about a 1/2"). What are people running with this set up? I don't know the mechanical implications of using a different thickness spacer, which is the bases of my question. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It seems any time you mess with a carb, the linkage and/or brackets need to be modified.

I'm running a 1906 with a one inch spacer on my 383 - or at least, I will be, once I get the damn thing running right. No clearance issues under the hood, with a two inch thick aftermarket air filter. But check yours carefully before closing the hood!

Yeh that’s a whole other thing I need help on figuring out lol. I figured my two barrel linkage was gonna be an issue.

It probably won't bolt right up. You will probably need a 4 barrel bracket and possibly a different cable. Kickdown linkage for an automatic can be a bit tricky.

Sorry, I don't. It has been a long time since I did any of those swaps on a big block. I have never done a 4 barrel swap that didn't require some bracket and linkage swaps and modifications.

looks like edlebrock kit #1873 would work from what I am seeing.

The car was originally a 383 four barrel, but everything was missing when I bought the car. I had to rig up a bracket for the throttle cable, but with the carb spacer I might need a taller bracket and maybe a longer throttle cable. Adding the spacer really throws off everything.

I would have located a stock AVS Carter for it. They are for sale here all the time, then everything be stock hook up.

IMO.....You would be better off using an original Carter AVS for your year car and transmission, that way everything will fit and function as origional even on the Edelbrock manifold. You do not need a Edelbrock/Carter carb to function. Linkage adaptation will be easier as well as fuel line connection and any external vacuum connections....albeit for distributor vacuum advance or any emission control device. FYI...anytime an adapter is installed under the carb to the manifold, a pressure drop occurs, which results in the mixture velocity slowing down and possibly resulting in uneven mixture distribution due to slower velocity.....in addition to hood clearance may be compromised and/or air filter housing not fitting. Just my opinion.......

That’s why I use a plastic 4 hole on my DP4B with an AVS 2.
