My apologies right up front if this has been addressed previously, but if it has, I can't seem to find it!

I have a '67 R/T J-code car that has the stick carbs on it and the usual non-functioning choke on the rear carb. The simple reason for this is because the car has a full TTI exhaust system, headers to tailpipes, so there's no provision for heating the choke coil off of the headers, as there is with stock manifolds.

The question is, has anyone here on the forum installed the Edelbrock retrofit electric choke carb kit(#1478, or similar) on their original HEMI carb?

Feedback, recommendations, and guidance, will all be greatly appreciated.

That's easy if your original choke assembly is complete. These carbs are the same as Hemi carbs, the electric choke is Carter, only thing to change is choke cap and spring.Find an intake mounted choke assist thermostat heater from a mid to late 70's ,wire it to the ballast resistor and you're done. The heater supplies heat to the choke spring,as the engine reaches operating temp the heat cuts off power to the choke coil spring.I had to go that route as the Max Wedge manifolds also have no prevision for heat.I may have another electric choke coil if you go that route.

No apology needed...This isn't FABO, and we won't be crucifying you for asking a question, and not spending 2 hours digging trough a generic search function beforehand.

My hemi has the original choke assy and all I did was add the electric element (black plastic part) and it works fine (like the pic above). As another option, when I had my 68 Mustang GT I drilled a hole through one of the header tubes and welded in a 5/16" stainless tube. Worked great!

X2 Prop!

This is all great information, and the sort of help that I was looking for. Thanks to all of you for taking the time to respond. Now, onwards I go!

I have that choke kit to put on my '67 R/T as well. It has an Edelbrock carb on it with a manual choke that is wired open. I see we can get the power for it from the ballast resistor, just be sure to not wire it to the side that goes to the coil - use the side of the resistor that is receiving power.
