Is the engine offset created by asymmetrical mount design or is it their location on the K frame? Thanks

I moved mine to the passenger side for header clearance when we set the engine back. The factory offset was for pinion angle me thinks,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Pinion angle or position?
If they wanted, they could have gone with an offset center section and 2 different length axles. I say the offset was for steering clearance. If Mopars had steering boxes forward of the front wheels, the offset wouldn't have been needed.

From what I read over the years it was for clearance on the left side of the car.......steering components mainly but it also allowed more foot room for the driver, pedal placement and the like.

it also allowed more foot room for the driver, pedal placement and the like.

Totally insignificant. That may have been "... and another benefit ..." but in reality just bullshit.

My post said.....steering components MAINLY but it also allowed more foot room for the driver, pedal placement and the like.

But tanks a lot for your reply anyways.

I know the offset is certainly for steering clearance, and that offset is carried right down the car. The trans tunnel is even offset approximately 1 1/2". I was just wondering how the engine position was obtained. It's difficult to tell with the engine still in the car. I wasn't sure if that 1 1/2" was in the mounts themselves, or where they attach. Thanks

Maybe they were offset to the right to counter-balance for the fat bastards that were to drive the cars. :p

The offset was there for a few reasons from what I know.
As Cranky said one of the reasons it was done to allow more room in the drivers footwell and to offset the weight of the driver.
Here we have the drivers position on the right side of the car opposite to the USA.
Some cars here are converted from left to right hand drive and I can tell you for sure many of the passengers side wells are markedly smaller than the drivers.

Then modern US cars should mount the engine on a cantilever. I remember growing up a fat girl was an oddity (even older women). Now anything under 150lb is extremely rare. Even young girls are huge. Every time I leave the US I'm amazed at the difference.

Were right hand drive mopar car engines offset to the left ?
Having consulted with my mechanic friend of many years, he confirmed to me that Chrysler vehicles with the steering wheel to the right hand side, ALSO have the engine still offset to the right hand side.

Main reason for this is that we, as a smaller player in the marketplace of cars (being RHD) had to accept that what the factory put out, was what we had to deal with. So consequently all RHD Chrysler vehicles had the same right hand offset as the LHD cars which were mass produced in comparison. Chrysler Australia basically jammed the steering gearbox in where they could to suit this less-than-desirable offset. This also meant that ancillary components such as brake boosters, were mounted on offset brackets to fit under the hood.

The reason he said to me was because of the steering box - not for space as such, but because it was traditionally mounted (fabricated to fit) directly to the K-Frame.....and NOT the chassis rails as was the case in the other lesser known brands such as Ferd and Chebby.

So @Stanton ...you were correct to a degree, but your method of explanation left a bit to be desired.

Lots of nerves between the eyes, brain, and thumbs... sometimes things miss fire. LoL
It's OK.....I was just funning you. However it did make me read your post several times.
