Engine overheated yesterday.

That sounds like a good idea and I may follow suit in the Fall. My heads were hand ported and I have to get the flow numbers from Nick at Compu-flow (a great guy to work with).

The engine builder had on the dyno this morning and it blew the head gasket in another area. He now has to pull the heads and send them to the machinist to check the heads. The machinist claims that the Indy EZ-1 heads blocked off a water passage that the OEM cast iron heads have. He thinks there are hot spots due to the blocked passage and wants my old cast iron heads to compare the two. I am thinking about seeking another builder and machinist. I can't win today...oh, got a reckless driving charge last week to round out my luck...

Take a deep breath, and chock it up for experience, and Mopar on , its a pain in the *** I know , been there also.not related but I went to start up my bird and the blower sneezed and kicked back the starter, snapped the starter mount on the 727 what a pain in the *** and wallet as far as the ticket goes. Does anyone know if the water passages are the same on the EZ-1 heads as the OEM cast iron? I hate to have to call the guys at Indy.

The engine builder finally pulled the cylinder head and noticed that the Fel-Pro gasket de-laminated and that was causing the coolant leak. He also noticed that one spring was broken so He is having the machinist put all new springs and seals in both heads and may use Kinetic (?) gaskets over the Fel-Pro. He has used hundreds of Fel-Pro gaskets before and can not explain why it de-laminated. Indy must be using cheap springs, but luckily no damage was done to the engine.

I told him that I was disappointed that the HP and torque power levels on his chassis dyno was not as I expected. He calmed me down and told me that he could only pull it to 4500 - 5000 RPM and it blew coolant out of the head on the first pull so he could not tune it. He is adamant that it will make over 600 HP (480-500 at the rear wheel) once the heads are prepped and head gaskets are fixed. The dyno sheet with the failed pull threw me a curve ball.
