Engine overheated yesterday.

rear passenger side of the block? that's where the trans dipstick is, right?

could the trans cooler have a snot in it and it's getting the trans and radiator hot??

just spit-balling here...:eusa_think:

I thought it was tranny fluid at first as it was in that location, but it is leaking coolant. It is dripping from the back right rear just behind the transmission dipstick and directly below the heater hoses. I thought that it would be an easy fix and the heater hoses were loose at the firewall, but the firewall is dry. It is leaking coolant onto the firewall pinch weld and dripping onto the passenger side collector and burning. As a bonus, burning coolant smells like maple donuts.

I had a core plug on the passenger side split on me once a few years ago. Thought it was a head gasket, so like an idiot I pulled the head without doing a pressure test first. I guess it was a lot easier replacing the plug with the head off the motor though lol. Regardless, I wouldn't be driving your car till you find the problem. If it is a plug and lets loose while on the road, you will be stranded.

I run evans coolant with NO thermostat and a 16 psi cap. Evans is low pressure or zero pressure with no water. I run it in my diesel pickup with great results. 500,000 mile coolant.

The builder is doing a pressure test today and making the machinist fix whatever he finds wrong. Hopefully it is a simple fix and I have it back Monday afternoon. It is leaking coolant (I tasted it - sweet) and I would guess a 12" diameter puddle in less than five minutes. I checked the oil and transmission fluid on Friday when I noticed there was a puddle under the engine and they look fine. Oil is dark and not milky and tranny fluid (not Caitlyn Jenner's) is pinkish red. It was strange as the drip is the right rear passenger side of the engine so initially I thought it was the transmission purging from the dip stick although the smoke was white and not blue. The radiator took a full container of 50/50 coolant to make twenty minutes up the road. I bet it lost a quarter of the fluid during the drive, but it is in his shop so no driving until he ascertains the problem.

Your description of where it is leaking makes me wonder if you have air conditioning? Or the over flow tube at the fire wall near the heater blower is spitting out?

The builder did a pressure test and it stayed solid at 16 pounds with no drips. He started the engine and it started to leak. He did a quick search and it is the Indy EZ heads leaking due to porosity. He put a can of K-seal (a copper based sealer) into the radiator and it stopped the leak. Anyone else use Indy EZ heads and have coolant leakage problems?

Ok, so the next time I hear how my 440source stealth heads are chinese crap I going to link this post to your forehead! lmao

Good god, rough aluminum caused a leak? was it at the rear plug on the head? or between the gasket and head?

Do you think that goop he put in there will last? Did you call Indy to see what they say about it?

Yes, rear plug or bolt at the back of the head is leaking. The sealer is a band-aid until the end of summer to take the engine apart. It is fine when cold, but as soon as it warmed up it would leak. bigman, what do you suggest is the problem?

Well, I would call Indy and ask them about it, however after reading several others posts about indy heads I doubt they would even return your call. How old are the heads? Is the builder going to make it right for you? I wouldn't re use those heads, I would get either a set of the Chrysler Power heads or call up Mancini.

I would take the head off now and fix the problem soon. Waiting just exposes you to m ore opportunity for trouble. This could be a core shift in the casting. Can you take a picture of the leaking area? I bet if you press Indy they will make good. Also get a Co2 test kit from a good Auto Parts store to rule out A head gasket leak or a crack in the head.

I will call Indy tomorrow as there is about 300 miles on the heads that I paid about $3,000.00 for the set. I will ask the builder about the leak down test, but the oil looked good and not milky. I am confused about bigman post about the 440 Source heads. Do you think the 440 Source heads are junk? I had Indy heads on my '71 Demon and they were great although their customer service was terrible.

Called Indy today and they suggested to pressure test the head while it is off the engine. The machinist who built the engine suggested to do the same, but since the builder put the K-Seal into it it may have filled the pinhole if there was one. The machinist wants to take the head off, pressure test it for porosity and mill it for straightness and change out the head gaskets. He can stitch weld it if he finds out it is porous or cracked. The guys at Indy are usually asses, but they were actually cordial to me today. The machinist was not very happy with their customer service when he was putting my engine together a few months back and I know this is a common complaint with Indy.

Yea get off 440 Source heads if Indy are crap too. Had a pair for 2 years no problems

I never said any heads were crap, 440 Source or Indy. Jackpot, do you have 440 source or Indy heads for two years now? Bigmanjpmopar also got very defensive about 440 Source when I never once mentioned them in my posts. Indy makes great products (I had their heads on a 340) and I realize that every manufacturer will make mistakes. I have not had the heads pressure tested so I can not say they are 'crap' or 'Chinese crap' until they are tested at the end of summer. I will have to say that Indy's customer service is usually 'crap'...

I've never had aluminum heads, but wonder if the header bolt hole on the #8 cylinder goes into the water passage (like the stock iron heads), and if so, was there a sealer used on it? It's in the right area...

According to the machinist it is between the head and block. The gaskets are fine and no coolant in the oil. So, this is a temporary fix with the sealer and I am hoping it is just a simple fix.

LOL no not you R/T SOME in general hate the stealth heads it was a general statement. I maybe sending mine to Hughe's soon to get all redone and cnc polished up.
