Stock 318 exhaust manifolds. Right hand side had a flapper valves with a spring, to help with cold starts.
So, I removed that and plugged the holes where the shaft used to be, with two bolts.
Noticed the centre ports are not flush smooth. I will buy a new file and attempt to make this area smooth again.
Can post a pic later when it is dark to show indent more clearly.

Don't worry about wasting time filing. You will never get a straight surface. Just use Fel-Pro exhaust manifold gaskets with the metal side to the manifold and you will be fine. I also spray copper coat on both sides of the gasket.

Metal side out, or towards the manifold.

Sorry, cleaning out the "P-Trap"... Metal side out to manifold and I copper coat both sides then let tack up for about 5 minutes before installing.
