Looks like a cool road trip! Might try that this year.

In elementary school the class went to the B&O museum in Baltimore and I remember seeing a turntable.

I believe this was under construction in the late '60s when I was there.

That locomotive...Western Maryland isn't running at the present time. It is due for it's 15 year inspection and over haul, and The Western Maryland is putting it's time and effort into restoring C&O 1309 2-6-6-2 since they wanted a larger steam engine to pull heavier trains. Unfortunately, like many, over budget and past several announced finish times.

The turntable at the B&O museum was used for rebuilding passenger cars.

That's why it's a solid deck and finished in hardwood.

IIRC it dates from the 1910's
