Careful not to stringline that with all those curves.
 
KCS stuck around much longer than other smaller class I's.

Probably helped that they operated the Panama canal alternative through panama by rail.
I didn't know that until a few years ago.

I enjoyed their colors, especially in the streamliner era.
 
I think they may have lasted longer because for a long time the railroads were leery of attempting another buy-out or merger, ever since the Surface Transportation Board put the stops to the planned CN/BNSF merger back in 2000.
