So, I have rebuilt and cleaned my old carter bbd. Replaced the fuelfilter and pulled out the fueltank and sender unit for some cleaning and new rubberhoses, maybe a new sock. Going to put some air through the fuel line, but what about the fuelpump? Since the fueltank and sender looked really good.. Do i have to take the pump apart and clean it too in some way? Original mechanical pump.

When I first got my 67 Barracuda, I sent the carb in to get rebuilt. The guy jumped all over me for so much crud in my system. He wanted me to get everything either cleaned or replaced with new. You're doing everything right. I wouldn't worry about what is in the pump. It has a very small volume and new fuel should flush it out. That's my opinion.

You are probably going to loosen up a bunch of old varnish and debris even with blowing out the lines. I had this happen on my 68 T/C wagon even after cleaning everything...I put a clear fram G2 filter before the fuel pump to catch any debris before going into the fuel pump and wrecking the diaphram, then a normal metal canister filter between the fuel pump and carb. I was shocked at the amount of sand and debris that showed up in the clear Fram G2 filter! Changed it out after a couple months and then once a year after that and it took several years before the fuel lines and tank had cleaned themselves up.
