When I bought a 70 Challenger in 1980, it came with a 3.23 and the stock 383 4 barrel was only getting 12 average but it went to 15 in town and 17-18 on the highway when I stuck in 2.94's and man, top end was great after that lol. Ran a 4.56 for awhile in a 71 340 Cuda and that was pretty fun but most of the time it had 3.23, 3.55's and 4.10. Stuck a 4.10 into my /6 Belvedere and that became more fun for sure! Used to build a lot of rears so always had a good selection of gears hanging around plus back then I used to hit the local pick and pull yards and bought all I could find. For 39.00 bucks a pop, you bet!
Same in the Challenger. Have an 833 4 speed. 1st gear is almost done and soon as you hit it. Seems like I'd need a trailer to take it to the strip. I was hoping 15" wheels and larger tires would help.
I think I'm gonna pull the 323 this season and throw in a 355 suregrip then see how it differs. Hoping for better off line action with my 27 inch tires.
4.57's on a spool.this car will never see any highway time.figure will redline in 3rd at about 140 mph given all my factors.should get there right frigg'n now as well!all about the fun with this ride.
