I’m 54, my dad had colon cancer in his late 60’s and a large contributor to his passing.

I work for a large oil company and they are always talking about safety and proactive health stuff.

Years ago I went to a safety seminar and a lady from the Louisiana State toxicology lab gave a talk about getting colon checks as a preventative measure against cancer. She talked about sharing this message with large groups of male union craft workers and how the majority of them would not go to get a colonoscopy because of their male pride and not wanting to go “there”.

I heard her message loud and clear: “get checked early, and 60 to 70 percent of the first signs of colon cancer are prevented which, in the long run can, and will, save your life.”

My company also uses WebMD to help us to be proactively healthy by eating right, reducing sodium, exercise, etc, etc. We also get a “health coach”… my initial thought was, this is BS, I don’t have time to talk with a health coach, much less follow any advice they might give… holy hell, I am stressed out enough without having someone telling me what to do. BUT, I did take a minute and tell the health coach if I am completely honest with myself I need to follow some of these “healthy suggestions”. So I did, I told the coach I needed to get a colonoscopy and I had been putting it off for several years, I also needed to get out and exercise a little more… (heavy on the little) LOL.

Well yesterday I had the “big procedure” done, I was a little apprehensive about the results but everything came back perfect. They completely knock you out when it is done so it REALLY WAS NO BIG DEAL, it’s also their job, so they really could care less who it is, or what procedure is being done.

If any of you have been putting this off like I did, get it done! You owe it to yourself and your loved ones to know you’re in good health.

We all gotta have every day, week, month and year to enjoy those bad *** Mopars!

Sorry this was so long but if it gets one person to go get checked then mission accomplished.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

I lost a older brother to colon cancer when he was 39, I've had fifteen colonoscopies since I was 33. Found out we have a family history, I was lucky my brother saved my life.

Get it done before age 50!!!!

My Nephew lost his best friend at the age of 23 to colon cancer, diagnosed at the age of 18.

Sorry about your Dad. No colonoscopy for me. Blood test numbers are close enough for a measuring stick. Billirubins, JerryRubin etc. My Uncle got "knicked during a procedure and spent his life running from one bathroom to another. I'll take my chances. Practice of Medicine is well named.

2 Boxes should cover it ehh?

Best naps I've had[gotta love the "milk of amnesia"]. The prep is the only bad part, but it's like a night after a bad night of Mexican food.

I had one of those colonoscopies done a couple of years ago wasn't a big deal till I woke up in the middle of it. I told him I had a very high tolerance level to all things anebriating. He didnt believe me so he paid the price, bare foot into his face boy was he mad.

Colonoscopy saved my life from Colon Cancer I go every tree years for Colonoscopy, plus my doctors nurse has big knockers and she rubs them on my shoulder every time i go for a check up.

My grandfather passed from colon cancer......my dad gets tested regularly and I'm 50 and I'm headed for my second screening...get it done it saves lives

I get big knockers rubbed in my face every time I go for a haircut, and no need for an **** intrusion there. Seriously, it's a great idea to get the regular check-ups fellas. :icon_thumright:

Had it done a few years ago. The prep wasn't so bad - the bad part was waking up to find out the doctor was a cute young female, and what's worse is that my wife told me I was passing gas like no tomorrow in the recovery room every time she checked on me. Awkward!!!!!

I agree, colonoscopies are dangerous and unnecessary for early screening with the advent of virtual colonoscopies. If they find something with this procedure, then you can go under the knife. This technology is rapidly winning favor within the medical community and it only takes about 15 minutes at roughly 25% of the cost.

This is actually a good idea, the down side would be when the doc finds polyps. Every time I had mine done, they removed two or more polyps.

I'm totally in favor of getting your regular colonoscopies. I've had 2'friends recently diagnosed with stage Four colon cancer. Recently means in the last few years. So far they're both alive because they were having problems, had the procedure and subsequent operations. One had a large section of his colon removed and the lower attached to the upper. He's still alive and technically cancer free. The other guy is wearing a bag and had his anus sewed shut during surgery because of the proximity of the tumor. I was bleeding profusely from there when I was 45 and had one - turned out to be internal hemorrhoids that had burst. Have been getting my butt reamed every 5 years since. It feels good to know I'm getting checked and have lowered my risk of getting the dread disease by a wide margin because I do. Have had polyps a couple of times.

You can use all the excuses you want - both of my friends did. They got cancer - I'm betting I won't - at least not there. Please get the procedure. You could all use a good butt reaming.....
