I am looking into a spray gun to spray Evercoat Slick Sand. So far what I see is that a 2.5 tip is suggested because of the thick material to spray.

I can't seem to get anyone on the phone from Devilbiss for help but I have heard that the GPG gun is good for this? I looked on the website and saw the gun with a PR 10 and PR 30. I tried to google this and I'm getting different results if PR 10 is better than PR 30 to use for the Slick Sand.

Can anyone clear up what the difference is between the two and what the PR number is? Is this the orifice size? Is this considered just a primer gun?

Do you have other guns to suggest for 2K primers, base coat, clear coat etc.?

I've heard that the Tekna is step up from the GPG gun? With more tip options?

I plan to spray :
MP 172 epoxy primer
PM 282 Acrylic Primer
Evercoat Slick Sand
base coat - I guess PPG
Clearcoat - looking for any input here
and I am still looking into a tintable sealer to spray over the finished work. FJ5 Lime Green Paint

I am using a large 80 gallon compressor.

Thanks in advance!

I don’t think you need to over think a primer gun. 2.5 is pretty big. Just pulled the tech sheet and it’s 2.0 or bigger. This stuff is spray filler, all you’re trying to do is bail it on. You’re not aiming for a fine finish. I’ve used cheap guns and better ones for spry filler. Don’t over think it, you’re gonna sand most of it off.

The internet DIY’rs like SPI products. Last car I shot I used their primers and clear. I would buy again.

Heck, I would use Harbor Freight’s Purple spray gun for that.

Thanks. I have used SPI primer and liked it. They have a high build prime but I’m not sure how it compares to Slick Sand. Quite a few shops do use Slick Sand however it does make sense to stay with the same brand.

Would you happen to know what tip(s) comes with that gun?

Thanks
The Harbor Freight purple spray gun typically comes with a 1.4mm tip size. Some users modify this gun by drilling the tip out to 2mm, which can be beneficial for thicker paints like primer. The standard 1.4mm tip is suitable for thinner paints and clear coats. We actually drilled out to 2.5mm.

So if you drill it out to 2.5 mm the needle will still work?
