My 69 Super Bee 440 w/ elec. ign. starts hard,backfires through the center carb,then starts and runs good,why is it starting hard?
 
Are you pumping the pedal while cranking the starter? Don't do that.

How long has it been sitting when it's hard to start? Day? Week? Month?
 
Hot, Cold, or all the time? Sort of sounds like a lean mis-fire on start up?
