Head-On Collision

Awesome experiment.
Had the same feelings of elation
on a few of the projects I worked on.
Mechanical designer, retired after 46
years. Designed all kinds of stuff for
busses. military vehicles, armored
limousines, deep sea drilling, and
line department vehicles and
equipment.
The highlight was a trip to Red Rock
proving grounds, when we blew up
an FMTV on a rail car. Had to make
sure soldiers could exit the truck after
an IED incident.
I would say a close second would be crashing a 40 foot bus into a slab
of concrete @ 60 mph.
46 crash dummies on board
There was a great debate as to
wether all bus passengers
should buckle up at the time. All
three crashes caught fire, and the
impact was severe enough as to
jam both front and rear doors. The
only way out was thru specially
designed windows, or the roof
hatches.
Also gotta say the view 80' up
in a two man bucket knuckle
boom line truck is great, but not
all that steady.
