HEI Distributor for a 383 = 440?

Is the HEI distributor for the 440 compatible with the 383? I'm looking to replace the old points system on my Satellite wagon and need a bit of input. Thanks in advance!

Is it just the main shaft that is longer or is there more that is different other than the shaft length? Always wondered if you swapped a mainshaft if it would be the same at that point.

Yes it's just a different length drive shaft.
Swappable.

If you can scare up an oe electronic distributor, here is another possibility to use.
HEI conversion.

You can also shorten the 440 shaft by cutting it. It is hard steel, not hardened, can be cut with a hacksaw.
