383 v 440 distributor

Hello! Is there a difference in the distributor between 383 and 440?

383 B engine, 440 RB engine raised block, dist. would be longer

They are totally correct. You can use a 440 in a 383 if you buy a $75 adapter plate.

Or you can just change the distributor shaft with a one from a RB distributor. That is of course only if you have a donor distributor. I’ve modified a few 383 cast iron dual point units for use in 440’s by switching the shaft with one from 440 aluminum housings.
