Hello new here I have a Hemi looking for the car it came out of

IIRC the car you are looking for was built at the Lynch Road plant. I believe that the engine would have been in either a 68 Road Runner or GTX, or a 68 Super Bee,or Coronet R/T. A Charger would have been built at the St Louis or Hamtramck plants.

68 Road Runner or GTX, or a 68 Super Bee,or Coronet R/T

To build a "possible VIN list":
Could a '68 Satellite be ordered with a Hemi? A Sport Satellite? A Coronet Deluxe, 440 or 500? What a bout 4-doors and wagons? All available roof styles (21, 23, 27, 41, 45, 46 {I believe only C-bodies had an available Hardtop "43" Wagon})?

Is this exercise not worth the effort to have them all out there for the webcrawlers?

Spitballin' here.

To build a "possible VIN list":
Could a '68 Satellite be ordered with a Hemi? In theory No! not available.... A Sport Satellite? Again No..A Coronet Deluxe, No 440 No or 500?No... What a bout 4-doors No..and wagons? No.. All available roof styles (21, 23, 27, 41, 45, 46 {I believe only C-bodies had an available Hardtop "43" Wagon})? No C body Hemi's Period...

Is this exercise not worth the effort to have them all out there for the webcrawlers?

That all said there are a few anomalies... This car should not exist... But it does...

I flipped the photo and increased the size. This might help identify as the number is more legible.
Hemi engine block number (2).png

Then - for the webcrawlers - the potential VINs would be:

RM21J8A239015
RM23J8A239015
RP21J8A239015
RP23J8A239015
WM21J8A239015
WS23J8A239015

RP27J8A239015
RM27J8A239015
WS27J8A239015 - Convertibles (27 body) built at St. Louis plant (G) only

WM27J8A239015- No Super Bee Convertibles
WM23J8A239015- No Super Bee hard tops in 68

WS21J8A239015-Coronet R/T was not offered in a coupe

Did you mean to post RS23J8A239015 for a GTX instead of RP?

Exactly the kind of info I was hoping for. Edited list still above. Probably will never bear fruit, but - so what, really .... might as well try, right?

Thanks
Mark

I commend you for trying to unite this engine with the proper car. Wish more folks would do this.

Hello i’ve been a car guy my whole life. Last few years have been getting into Mopar‘s. I’ve acquired a 426 Hemi Marysville Engine plant Assembled February 16 1968.. 0006 Assembly sequence. Came out of a car from lynch. Taking a shot in the dark and wondering if the car is still around. The best that I can tell vin on the block A239015. Not easy to read at all. Any help would be greatly appreciate it. Sorry if this is the wrong spot for this post. I didn’t see anywhere else to put it.

take some 400 grit and polish up the stamp. Correct number will greatly enhance your chance of finding it

You can take some thinner and rob off all the old grime and paint out of the stamp…. Then get some white paint ….paint it….then sand off with 400…..should be way easier to read

I have reunited 2 Hemi’s with the cars they came from and it’s no easy task. You need to start with the person you bought it from and chase the ownership history
