Just got 68 Coronet together. 440 - 727- 2400 stall - Put it in D and feels like slipping, but goes. Pull it in low and feels like your other foot is on brake hard. Trans was refreshed 4 yrs ago and has sat. 3.91 gear.
Help appreciated.

I would double check the linkage adjustment and make sure the manual lever is going into the correct spots, especially if you are using an aftermarket shifter. If the problem is still there, get the car to a lift and get a pressure gauge on your taps. Do those things before takling the pan off. If the trans never ran after rebuild and seals/rings were not properly lubed, servos or rings may be leaking and or stuck. Check out this little diagnosis site

Sounds like it could possibley the over running clutch. There is a set screw under the valve body in the back of the case that holds the outer ring of that clutch in the splines in the case if it didnt get tightened then the ring spun in the case and that can be a problem. They make a kit to fix the case if thats what happened or you could look for a new case to put your guts in.
