Hemi A833 or modern 6 speed

Currently building a 68 charger. It’s a Factory auto, but I’ll be looking to put a manual trans in the car. I have somewhat been keeping an eye out for a Hemi 4 speed. Part of me almost thinks it’s better to try and mount a tr6060 or something in the car, despite having to cut the torsion bar crossmember. Id like to buy something strong enough to tolerate 1000hp or so. Realistically it’ll probably be 550-650 at first, but I’d rather overbuild than under build. What sort of abuse can Hemi a833s take?
With lower gears in the car, is freeway driving going to be impractical.


Is there anyone who has done the swap that has input?

I have a gen2 Hemi that dynoed at 575 HP and have a tremec 5 speed with Dana 60 with 354 gears in a 71 Cuda. I don't race but it is a nice street car. At 70 mph I'm turning 2000 RPM.

Being in Texas a 6 speed is a no brainer. MO. Friend was in Texas visiting the host go to pick something up. (I've forgotten what) So they hop in the car and friend how far is this place "it's down the road a piece" 100 miles latter they got there.

I would go with a new 5/6 speed.

Factory console and fabricate an Inland handle onto the new shifter to make it look stock.

You really have to go new I’d go 6 speed it just makes great sense

It all depends on the roads you drive.
Being in Texas I would guess allot of open roads and 65+ mph speed limits.
I have been a fan of the Passion 4 speed OD he makes (not the 5 speed not that there is anything wrong with them I just have no experience with one ) and have used them in several builds.
I ran a Tremec TKO 5 speed in a 71 Duster with 3.55 gears and it was a highway star. I always felt the 3.91 would have been better as the cam I was using the engine lugged at speeds under 60 mph. But live and learn.
