Hemi Orange 72 Rallye Charger

Nice progress! I love the 72 rallye it is my favorite 3rd gen. Were are you at in Illinois? I guessed Northern since you mentioned Mopar City.

" that carb looks like new again but same one?"

I haven't gotten back to the guy since I dropped it off. I need to get in touch him about it. Last I knew was that the Accelerator pump wasn't working. I've been using my old afb off of my 383 that I took out of my coronet years ago. Hasn't been rebuilt and it fired up and is running pretty good. Thank's Ron. I know my build is slow going and not as fast passed as i'd like it to be, but i'm trying to make it a driver for now. Get some cruising time in it before I do any major body work.

I'm more in the Illinois Valley area. Closer to Starved Rock.

Thanks. I was always a fan of the 71 RT, but in search of a 3rd gen I found this Rallye and just had to have it. I never really seen a rallye before. Not sure if I just wasn't paying attention or what. Now that I am watching out for them, I don't see too many. I've seen more 71's and even 73's, but not so many 72 rallyes. I love the door's and the black RT tailights. Just wished they would've continued the loverd hood's in 72.

Man that's a great car! How'd I miss this? Looks like it's still runnin warm. I would flush hell outta the coolin system. If the water pump was like that......

But dammit man, what an awesome foundation. So I guess it's a numbers matchin car?

Still hot? Thought 190* was normal or ok? Yeah I got if off of ebag back in July. I started a thread about it back then about Rallye production numbers. Its all there except a few parts (a/c, rear sway bar, "charger" emblems, seat backs, and original motor). It is a hemi orange black topper rallye, power everything, 3.55 sure grip with automatic.

They are very cool cars and the ram Charger hood was available and one of the coolest options on 3rd gens. Not familiar with starved rock. I am just across the river from StLouis in Granite City.

Oh maybe I was lookin at the wrong gauge. Does it have a different than factory temp gauge? I thought I was lookin at the factory one and it was on the high side. The breakdown I am sure is between my seat and the keyboard.

Yeah I have an equis gauge hooked up, its below the a/c controls. It read 190*, it would climb to 200 then back down to 190 after thermostat opened up.

Update. Back has been killing me so progress has been hit and miss. I did pay a buddy to help get the breaks bled "do all the crawling around". I backed it up and pulled it into the alley. Then found that it wasn't turning to well. The power steering pump was dry. I filled it up and then was able to steer it around and back it into the garage next to the coronet. My daughter said " awe now the super bee has a brother". We all know its not a real bee, but she has loved the super bee graphics and always called it that. So i'm not gonna argue.

I actually was feeling good yesterday after work. So I decided to put it up on stands and check the flex plate bolts. And they sure enough were loose. Not falling out loose, but I could still turn them. So I pulled them out and put a little lock tite on the threads and reinstalled the bolts. Got to the last one and snap!! #$%&^%$%^er, i'm sure the whole block herd me. So now I have 3 holding and one broken off in the torque converter. I also noticed that the power steering gear box leaked out all the fluid from where the column meets. (idk the technical term) but I assume I can't just replace a seal. The tranny pan is still leaking from the front of the pan. The bolts are wet. And also looks like a have a rear main leak. Doubtful that its a oil pan leak...

So in effort to press on. I reinstalled the avs that wasn't shooting gas before . The guy said it was missing a check ball? Oh well, it didn't cost me anything and he rebuilt it again, so hopefully it shoots gas this time. I also got the distributor and gear turned so I can get more advance out of it. It was stopping on the valve cover before. I think I have a sloppy timing chain. I turned the crank from 10* before tdc to tdc and the cam never even moved. Oh well. I have to get the car out of the garage and into a storage unit some place. Now that my landlords want the other half of the garage back... I need to buy a house, so I can have my own garage. But thats another thread, lol.

It's been quit a while since I've updated the status of the charger. I've got it out of the weather before winter last year.

I replaced the forward headlight harness.

Pulled the steering column and disassembled it. Replaced the ignition switch and turn signal switch. Now its back together.

Removed dash. Was missing air ducts. Acquired them from here :). Replaced the cut up gauge bezel. And replaced a few broken vents. Also picked up the proper dash emblem from eBay . Installed a factory AM/FM radio. Also replaced dash harness. I'm in the process of making a speaker bracket for the dash so I can use two speakers. Still have a ways to go before the dash assembly is completed.

Pictures will be posted soon .

I tried to pm you but the box is full . I would be very interested in your rallye if you ever think of selling thanks Mark

Hey everyone. It's been a while since I've workwd on this car. Life gets in the way sometimes. Here's an update on what I have done since my last posts: I have removed the dash assembly and the ac/heater box assembly. I've gotten the dash rewired, anded a overlay to the pad. (Sorry guys poor man here). I did use M&H wires and labeled everything, so the next time I need to work on it, it will be much more simple. I have a new heater core on order as of this post and already have the Detroit Muscle foam repair kit. No clue on where all that foam goes as to mine was disinterested or ate by mice. Also this foam has no sticky. So what to use that wont chemically eat the foam? Anyways, I took a bunch of photo's. Enjoy.

Funny reading my last post from 2013. I can't find that damn emblem anywhere. So im using the se one for now. Here's the rest of the ac/heater box tear down.

I can upload 10 pictures at a time. Here's some of it scrubbed down and clean. Also the picture of the ticket was inside of the box. A friend on Facebook found out the years the drive through was in business. 64 -82. So I was impressed it was still in there.

It's been quite a while since I've added to my story. I finished up the heater box.

I got lucky and found a original tach on Ebay that was being sold as a Cordoba tach. I researched the part number and it was for 71-74 b body's. I upgraded the circuit board with a RT Engineering's board. And calibrated it using the instructions. It was very straightforward. Even for a dope like me.

I did some interior work as well. Last year I stripped the driver's seat, blasted, fixed, powder coated the frame, and installed legendary covers with a new foam kit.

I then cleaned up the center console , scraped off the old insert, and applied a new insert .

I decided that I wanted to add the multiplex radio and found one on Ebay. After giving up on Ebay for an original cassette recorder (crackhead prices)for a console, I reached out on Facebook. A gentleman p.m.ed me and a deal was struck. So now all I need is the microphone.

Nice to see you back and all the progress, good job on the heater box. I've got the DMT kit staring at me but haven't gained the courage to start working on it yet. My box does have some cracks and chunks missing. :(
