Going to drink some beer today gents !

NW Microbews are on tap !

Make mine a Grain Belt Premium. Made nearby in New Ulm MN. Has the great taste of the "old" beers, not that watered down light beer taste.

Kind of slim maybe but sure sounds good, of course id have to explain it to the wife, you understand....................... So as soon as i get back home, ill do just that, explain it to her in no detail! Thanks Mario!! :blob1:

I tried this on Saturday. Not very good, but I of course finished it off on principle. it didn't have a bacon maple flavor to it in my opinion. To me it was like a very very smokey Newcastle brown ale.

Pliny the Elder is brewed with Amarillo, Centennial, CTZ, and Simcoe hops. It is well-balanced with malt, hops, and alcohol, slightly bitter with a fresh hop aroma of floral, citrus, and pine. Best enjoyed FRESH! That is why we make it in such limited supply. Actual bottling date is printed on each bottle!

Where did we come up with this name? Back in the year 2000, our friend, Vic Kralj, who owns the Bistro in Hayward, California, decided to have his first ever Double IPA festival. Vic invited 10 breweries, 6 of whom (including us) had to brew something special for him since we had nothing that would fall under this style category. Vinnie had made a Double IPA at Blind Pig in 1994, but was not brewing one at Russian River Brewing at the time. He had an idea for the recipe, but not a name. After much research in beer books, brainstorming, and deliberation, we came up with "Pliny the Elder". Pliny, the man, lived in the first century- 23 to 79 A.D. According to our brewing references, he and his contemporaries either created the botanical name or at least wrote about Lupus Salictarius, or hops, currently known as Humulus Lupulus. That was a very early reference to an important part of any Double IPA! Pliny the beer has now become one of our flagship brews!

Pliny the Elder was immortalized by his nephew, Pliny the Younger, who wrote about his uncle succumbing to ash and smoke during the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D. while rescuing people. Cheers to the scholar, historian, officer, writer, and Roman Naturalist- Pliny the Elder!

Gaius Plinius Secundus (23 AD – August 25, 79 AD), better known as Pliny the Elder, was a Roman author, naturalist, and natural philosopher, as well as naval and army commander of the early Roman Empire, and personal friend of the emperor Vespasian. Spending most of his spare time studying, writing or investigating natural and geographic phenomena in the field, he wrote an encyclopedic work, Naturalis Historia, which became a model for all such works written subsequently. Pliny the Younger, his nephew, wrote of him in a letter to the historian Tacitus:

For my part I deem those blessed to whom, by favour of the gods, it has been granted either to do what is worth writing of, or to write what is worth reading; above measure blessed those on whom both gifts have been conferred. In the latter number will be my uncle, by virtue of his own and of your compositions.[1]
Pliny is referring to the fact that Tacitus relied on his uncle's now missing work on the History of the German Wars. Pliny the Elder died on August 25, 79 AD, while attempting the rescue by ship of a friend and his family from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius that had just destroyed the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. The prevailing wind would not allow his ship to leave the shore. His companions attributed his collapse and death to toxic fumes; but they were unaffected by the fumes, suggesting natural causes.[2]

I like the story behind the beer as much as the beer

Finally! Beer drinking and motor building are my 2 favorite (non-horizontal) activities. It's about time we discussed beer. My 2 cents.....
Chimay Red
Fat Tire Raspberry Wheat
Blue Moon
Sam Adams Octoberfest
Jever

If anyone lives in or has been to Philly- How about "Monk's". They have some pretty odd game type dishes and I think they have all three Chimay varieties on tap!

Go Duck

Nice to see that "other" is leading the poll.

When I don't brew it I'll buy either Carlsberg or Pilsner Urquell. Period. Nothing else deserves my cash...except maybe Tuborg.
